Hi.
Got a problem with Outlook Express.
Recently installed vista home with outlook and all was well.
Today i got connected with sky broadband. When i send emails from outlook it gets sent no problem but when i receive a mail it looks but comes up with no new messages.
I can view the emails via web mail (gmail). They are all there with the same email addy etc.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Not sure which email client you are usine here.
Outlook Express is usually included with Internet Explorer.
Outlook is part of the Office Suite.
Windows Mail is integrated into Vista.
In you post you have mentioned Outlook Express, Outlook and Vista.

Try deleting the Account and re-entering
.... just to checlk the incoming server should be : pop.gmail.com (not pop3)
and the outgoing server : smtp.gmail.com ..... and the box at the bottom should be ticked "My server requires authentication"

Tried deleting and re-entering account, same problem.
The pop and smtp is "pop.sky.com" and "smtp.sky.com"
Would this make a difference?

ok if its a sky email then you need to set up outlook express as
pop.tools.sky.com
smtp.tools.sky.com
username - you may need to add @sky.com to the username showing in the box
and as phil says, tick "My server requires authentication"

Tried all the above. pop.tools wont log in at all.
Added @sky.com to user name - no difference.
Looks like i just have to use webmail until i can find someone at sky who knows what theyre talking about.
Thanks for all your help.

In the first post you mention that all was well until you started using Sky, you also mentioned using gmail but then in later posts refer to Sky email, sorry If I'm missing something but I think this leaves some questions that need clarifying,
Are you having problems with Sky email or gmail or both ?
If you use Gmail can you still receive mail from that account using pop3 ?
Details for setting up Sky email in outlook express but the settings would be the same for any email client.
From Sky email support. (http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/template.PAGE/menuitem.780cf8dc78bbae4db84b9e10413071a0/?javax.portlet.tpst=ebe4d4e5e4c05a9760c24510413071 a0&javax.portlet.prp_ebe4d4e5e4c05a9760c24510413071a0 _setaction=display&javax.portlet.prp_ebe4d4e5e4c05a9760c24510413071a0 _command-in-session=true&javax.portlet.prp_ebe4d4e5e4c05a9760c24510413071a0 _contentid=324110&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken)
1. Open Outlook Express, click Tools then select Accounts.
2. Click the Mail tab, then click Add and select Mail.
3. The wizard will start. Type in your name then click Next.
4. Enter your email address then click Next.
5. Leave the My Incoming Mail Server is a POP3 Server drop down box as POP3.
In Incoming Mail Server enter: pop.sky.com (all lowercase, no spaces).
In Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server enter: smtp.sky.com (all lowercase, no spaces).
6. In the Account Name Box enter the first part of your @sky.com email address (everything before the @ sign).
In the Password Box, enter the password for your @sky.com email account, then click Next.
7. Click Finish.
8. To complete the acount creation process, click Tools then select Accounts.
9. Click the Mail tab, then click Properties.
10. Tick the "My server requires authentication" box and click OK.
Repeat the above process for each mail account you want to set up, including sub accounts.
Each sub account will have a different email address and password.
If you're having trouble sending email from Outlook Express (or other email software), it may mean you need to switch on SMTP authentication.
Forget about the smtp server if you are sending emails it is fine.
Your problem is with your pop3 server or authentication. It should just be a matter of pointing it at the right server and proving a username and password. However it depends on your ISPs setup as to whether or not you need to include the @sky.com.
Your smtp (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) server is responsible for sending messages and your pop3 (Post Office Protocol) server is responsible for delivery to your email client. Generally you will only need to authenticate to the pop3 server and email messages are sent without authentication.
If you are sure you are entering the correct info for your pop3 server I would get on the phone to your ISP and ask them to reset your password.

Thanks zac.
Its definately working ok, i'm getting all emails on webmail and forwarding them to my hotmail, no problem.
Theyre just not showing up in windows mail. I'll try sky again when i have a free couple of hours and ask them about resetting password.
