Hi guys
sorry if this is old news but just found out myself.
found this quite good. tesco are now offering dvd rental by post. you pay £15.00 per month give them a selection of 20 + titles you would like to watch & they send up to three at a time through the post. you can keep them as long as you like. as you have watched one or all, pop them back in the post in the reusable post prepaid envelope supplied and they send replacements as they are returned, out to you first class. on the downside you have no control over which films from your selection the send you. still..gota be better than blocksters.

Yeah good thing about it is it counts towards your clubcard points (if you shop at tesco for groceries may make a difference). But a few people have tried it out and say its abit ropey on the non "box office" movies- they have very few copies of the more "random" movies. Turn around is a little slower than some of the others too apparently (not used it yet just what i've read from another forum)

Here's a few others than have been around for a while longer
Lovefilm (http://www.lovefilm.com/)- formerly dvds on tap- pretty good got a 15 day free trial (as do most others)
DVDs365 (http://dvds365.com/)- Pretty good site loads of titles, fast turnaround
Movie Mailbox (http://dvd.mailboxmovies.com)- has got loads of different options (1 out at a atime to 5 out), also apparently if you ;ike the service and are willing to commit think they give 12months for 10 paid

Here's a few others that keep getting mentioned

www.dvdoptions.co.uk (http://www.dvdoptions.co.uk)
www.movietrak.com (http://www.movietrak.com)
www.viewdvd.co.uk (http://www.viewdvd.co.uk)
www.screenselect.co.uk

Almost all of these have got 2week/15day free trials so you could just jump from one to another :D

I`ve tried a couple of these dvd rental places and i still prefer to go to my local blockbusters and rent the films i want, when i want them. Found they dont carry enough copies to supply the demand. I like the big movies on the day of release.
Still a good idea though.

Screenselect are excellent, by far the best turnaround of any I've used.

LoveFilm were OK for me but the turnaround has been awful for quite a while now even though I send the discs back before 09:30 on day of receipt everytime.

I send the discs back before 09:30 on day of receipt everytime.Perhaps that's the problem, these companies won't make any money out of heavy users and will probably see you as "abusing" the system...

Think of the cost of postage alone vs the price they charge you and you'll see that the figures don't really match up.

These things are the free-phone call ISPs all over again :(

Why pay for something if you can't use it to the full extend then?

I'm not saying you shouldn't. All I'm saying is that a lot of these companies are going to hit the wall very quickly, and those that survive are bound to put a choke on how many discs you can rent in a month, because the current situation is not viable to them.

In the meantime, if their business model is inadequate, that's their problem. By all means exploit it, but don't be surprised when it all stops. These companies have clearly banked on getting users that'll keep films for a week or so at a time, just as the free-internet companies banked on users only using their access for a few hours per night (that's changed now because of different telecoms infrastructure and regulations, but think back to breathe, RedHotAnt, screaming.net etc etc).

As I say, go for it, but it won't last forever.

Can't be classified as abuse as there is nothing in any of these companies terms & conditions preventing you from doing so.

In fact many companies you can keep the disc as long as you like which to me is abuse if I'm waiting for say disc 4/4 of season 4 of The Sopranos as I am right now! :D

In fact, and I am not advocating this, it is perfectly possible in the UK right now to take of advantage of all these online DVD rental companies free trial policy to go from one firm to another using their free trial without ever having to pay a single penny to any of them and simply cancelling your sub before you are required to start regular payment. Now that's something they really should look at.

At the end of the day I cannot see how it matters if you send discs back straight away to them because everyone is getting a higher chance of renting what they want sooner.
