Hello there i've come across all the threads selling tv series, movie collections etc....on mp4, For example 24 season 1 on 1 dvd in mp4 format.
Now i see that there advertised as for ipod, psp's and so on but i've just got a dvd player that is mp4 compatible so i was wondering what would the quality like be of these discs played through my dvd on a 27" lcd?

mp4 is a container format, does your DVD player state what codecs within the MP4 conainer it will play (some people refer to mp4 as audio or video). DivX/XviD is called mp4 sometimes so it may mean that rather than h.264 video (which certain versions are iPod & PSP compatable)

try downloading an iPod video from a torrent site and testing it

the iPod is limited to 480x480 so the videos you get will be that resolution or smaller (some you legally download are 320x180 widescreen) which don't look too good on my 37" LCD but the higher the bitrate the better it scales
