hi guys i have xp on my laptop and i want to put vista on it.how do i do it guys in BASIC FORM as i know jack about computers..

Simply put the Vista CD in the DVD/CD Drive, reboot and follow the screen prompts.

Assuming of course that your Lappy is upto the task ... i.e. enough RAM/CPU etc. and you are happy to reformat/lose your current data.

If it doesn't go into the installation routine, you may need to change the bios boot sequence to boot from CD.

think there's some software from MS you can download and run and it will tell you if your PC is up to it or not

Hit the "Windows" key and "Pause/Break" key ... this will give you the main spec.

The minimum system requirements depend on what version you want to install. This page will give you some idea :
