parallel port help

hi all, ive been trying to install a phone data cable onto my pc via port 1 or 2 as these are both free as everything is usb.
my trouble is once they are plugged in and i try to get my mobile software to recognise the phone vua the data cable, it states either
communication port opening failed, check to see if the port is reserved for some other equipment
another message ive had is
it is not possible to use that port as it may be in use by something else.

can anyone help me out?

Have you tryed using any other devices on that port by chance?

port 1 or 2?? are you sure this is a parallel port M8 and not a com port?

Or even Serial Port as they are actually known ;).

hi all, ive got to connect this data cable into the com 1 or com 2 port on the pc. ive not got anything plugged in there, although in the past i might have done.

ive even tried formating my old pc and trying to set it up on that with no luck

can anyhone help
