laptop boot up hanging prob Win XP

Hi all
My compaq laptop boots up till i get to the windows screen then the screen flashes blue very quickly with lots of txt on it and continues to restart over and over again this happens i cant get anywhere.
I have treid to start last known good config , safe mode and every other mode it just does the same blue screen and restarts.
I managed to get into the bios and change the boot up to cdrom thinking i could use my XP disk to repair the problem but no :-( .. i dont even get the option to boot from disc just the saem as above happens.

Anyone help as getting desperate now

Run MS RAM Diag (http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp) in extended test mode to see if your memory is bad.
