View Full Version : Windows installer problem
Hi Guys
I have a new prob.
I installed program a while ago, I went off it and uninstalled it. The program uninstalled ok, but left behind it's title in the remove programs list, it has nothing else there, just it's title. I did a thorough search through my comp and deleted everything associated with this program. I also ran reg scrub. My prob is that quite often windows installer comes up and tries to install this program, and of course it cannot becase theres nothing there, but windows installer is insistant and tries to install this thing repeatedly. This is becomming a real pain and I was wondering if anybody knows how to stop this.
Many thanks.
Suzy.
Tweak UI can remove the title from the add/remove list.
ps2wiz - thanks for replying. Would this stop windows installer from keep trying to install this old prog, and could you kindly point me in the right direction for Tweak UI
love
Suzy
Well, how do you get windows installer to try to uninstall it? Does it just randomly pop up or something?

ps2wiz - That is exactly what it has been doing. It just pops up at random and tries to install this dead prog. I have had a look in the doc & settings folder that it says the path leads to and there is nothing there. When it pops up I try to cancel it but it keeps popping up and it usually takes about six or seven attempts to get it to stop. As you can imagine its becomming a real pain.

Hi guys
thanks for your replies the prog was called ace mega codec pack, has anybody else had probs with this ?
love Suzy
Try doing a search for it in the registry and delete all keys that include the program. And have you given tweak ui a try?
A simple alternative would be to install the app and uninstall it again.

Suzy .... you might like to look at the user comments here : http://www.techtree.com/techtree/jsp/showstory.jsp?storyid=3841
Might be worth checking for spyware etc. ..... it seems you are not alone.
There's a Microsoft utility for getting rid of corrupt installations from your registry and the Add/Remove Panel. I've used it myself (not for that particular app but still) and it seems to do the job....could be worth a look...

Good luck,
