Hi guys

I recently ugraded my PC to a core 2 and now have a problem with downloading.
When it first starts off the speeds are what i'd expect but within 30 seconds they start dropping and within a minute they are at zero.
This is happening with Bittorrent, newsgroups and even small downloads within the browser.
The only way to get them started again is to close down the program and start again.
I thought this could have been cos of my wireless network, but i've plugged the modem direct to the pc and it still does it.
I'm pretty sure it's the actual pc that's the problem.

Anyone help??

Cheers

Tried a different pc and everything works fine. All speeds are exactly what they should be and it holds up ok.
Put a network card into problem pc and it runs off that but not to speed.
Wondering if it could be mobo or driver problem??

It seems like you're experiencing TCP/IP problem. Some software such as BT clients and download managers tend to override and therefore mess up the default TCP/IP stack. Try the MS Guided Help to restore the default TCP/IP settings from this page (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357).

Worked a treat for the download speed but again it just bombed out.
The only way i can get it to stay online is if i change the ethernet connection from auto-negotiation to 100baseTx full duplex and i haven't got a clue what all that is about. It only gives me 3-4 Meg instead of 20 Meg tho.

You'll need to try a hard reset of the system and the router/modem. Turn off the PC and the router/modem then disconnect all power cords and internet cables to the router/modem for at least 2 minutes. Reconnect all cables/wires then power up the whole thing.

Also, disable auto disconnect option for the router/modem.

I believe your BT client or download manager is the culprit. Uninstall it and use FlashGet (http://www.flashget.com/en/download.htm) instead.
