Can anybody give me any tips for DV to DVD?
Basically just bought a new sony mini DV cam and want to make dvds from the tapes etc.Im pretty clued up on making dvds and converting etc but have never taken film off a dv camera before so I need to know the following really...
1.Which software is best for capturing/copying the film of the camera with?

Software doesn't matter so much. Capturing DV is a lossless process so any app should have the same quality.
When it comes to editing and converting though, the app does matter.
Hmmm, tips... As I said capturing DV is a lossless process, the format itself however is not.

Didn't your sony come with capture software (e.g. Pixela)? Anyway - if you want to move up to professional editing then I'd recommened Sonic Vegas. I've got Adobe Premiere as well but keep going back to Vegas. Both of these will capture from your Sony via firewire port.

m8 i went through loads of threads and got advice on all sorts of difficult stuff when i got my dv cam. i finaly used windows movie maker and had great results, very easy to use. after i have done all my tiles etc i record back from movie maker to the tape and record it on a panny e20, then run the finnished dvd through spruce for nice menus etc. very easy!
i use a firewire card and windows picks the cam up no probs!

if you're running on windows xp then use "movie maker" import your video as dv files, a 60-minute tape will use 13G from your hd, so you need a big hard drive to do this. Then use TMPGENc plus to convert your video to MPEG2 and use any dvd creator softwares to compile it.

:wavey: I use sonic mydvd or intervideo windvr , connected by L,R into the sound card line in socket thru a 3.5mm mini stereo jack connector (turned down to about 18/100, otherwise it picks up interference) And a component video cable connected to a pc tv tuner card, this way i can convert analogue and digital tapes, sonic and windvr contain transcoders to convert and burn to cd vcd or dvd format etc, I used to have a dazzle card connected with a firewire cable this gave exactly the same quality as a Pc tv tuner card for half the price.
