hi, recently my cdburner has started to fudge up data discs work ok but audio cds arnt it says it burns ok but then when i try to play em the first few songs are ok then all i get crackling and you can bearley hear the music ive tried the discs in different drive but i get the same prob,
ive cleaned the burners eye, tried heaps of diff media, updated it and tried lots of diff programs with the same result but if i burn the same disc on cdrw it works good wjats wrong with it?

What software are you using? I'd bet it's CDRWin ---- if it is, then you have "entered" a serial that it doesn't "like". If that is the case, then I would suggest getting a proper serial #. If this doesn't apply, give us more detailed information and I'm sure you will get it corrected.

nah im not using cdrwin im using prassi, it works with cdrw but not cd-r
the burners a ricoh (3yrs old) i tthink its only done this since i got the new puter but i dunno if that would make a difference im sure everythings plugged in where its meant to be ive got win98se is therre any other info i could give that would heelp?

if you have tried different burning software, media and flashed the drive with the latest firmware and its still doing it, I would think considering its age etc, I pressume its done a few cds by now!. I would say its had its day and buy a new 1 m8 they dont last forever

Not really related to the problem but regarding age, am I the only person who still has a 2x CD burner I bought in 1997 that still works perfectly? Believe me, it's done a great many Playstation and Dreamcast games + probably 1000's of Audio CD's (I work in a theatre and CD *was* the main medium for playback where a single show could merit 10-20 discs for rehearsal purposes)
It's now in my brothers computer as his only CD-drive yet it still burns away without a care in the world!

I still have my 4x cd burner paid $180 for it long time ago. :)
