live for the original xbox?

never having used it i know zip about it at all, but the young un wants it for his original xbox.

also the box is chipped, will this be a problem?

Yes it's still available. If you want to go online with a chipped box however the chip will need disabling (some later chips have a switch) otherwise your xbox will be banned.

Yup, only original discs and a console that has it's chip switched off can be used on XBL. You can use one of the XBL alternatives though if you can't be bothered about switching it off. NeXBC is decent although the title selection is kind of limited.

Let me know if you get on to Live...it seems a bit quiet outside of Halo 2...and I need someone to play against that isn't a 13 year old American...and who is preferrably as rubbish as me ;)
