hi all i know this has been asked before but i want to know the best way to connect them together for hd quality
pc has dvi ,vga and svideo output from a radeon x1300 pro 256 mb
currently using dvi for pc monitor but can change it to vga and use dvi for plasma if needed.
tv has pcinput (vga i presume 15 pins) + a spare hdmi imput, composite not in use also
im guessing the pcinput will only be analouge so my guess would be dvi to hdmi if that works.
then i would need sound from iether s video or my seperate sound card soundblaster x-fi extreme
am i going in the right direction or not any advive would be great
thanx Tony

DVI to HDMI would be best for HD, that's how I do it, my normal monitor is connected by VGA although my graphics card has 2 x DVI outputs - I use a DVI to VGA adapter
Rather than a DVI to HDMI cable, I thought about the future and bought a DVI to HDMI adapter and then a HDMI to HDMI cable, this way, in the future I have options if I need to re-use the cable/adapters. Got both from eBay and they were under £10 delivered altogether
for the sound, I have 2 set ups.
1) this is for stereo sound: I have a cheap 3.5mm jack splitter, one goes to my monitirs speakers for every day use, the other I have a jack to phono lead which then plugs into the TV next to the HDMI lead from the PC, if I am watching something in stereo on the TV from my PC I will mute my monitor (or just turn it off)
2) I have onboard sound which has SPDIF coax output, this is connected to my 5.1 amp, I use this most of the time (especially since MOST hi-def is in 5.1, but not all) and this way can be used for stereo too if you wanted.
I can't imagine most people buying into hi-def and not getting a surround amp, that wouldn't make sense (hi def is about audio as well as video)

I'd highly recommend getting a cheap soundcard with digital out (SPDIF or Coax) as it makes the viewing experience so much better.
In the meantime, just get a 3.5mm jack to phono lead to plug into your amp (assuming your amp has phono inputs and the soundcard had jack output)
