floppy drive problem

when I insert a floppy disc( not blank) into the drive I m getting a message that the disc is not formatted and would I like to format now -this will prob erase all info on the disc so I didnt do it
anyone any suggestions??

Two possibilities
1. Either the heads are out of alignment on your machine or the machine the file was written on.

2. Security descripter issues, IE the file was put on the disc from a Win2K or XP machine and you are trying to read it on a Win98/ME machine.

Try formatting a blank disk and copying some files to it.

If the above works it's your disk, not the drive, that's faulty.
If you cant format a disk etc. maybe time to grab a new floppy drive.

thanks guys will give it a go, by the sounds of things its the drive as the discs come formatted
