Evenin' All.
I'm looking at buying myself a laptop nothing special just a £250-£350 job.
i've seen this many laptops that are decent spec but it seems you only get 512 ram on the cheaper laptop so my question is.....
Is it easy to upgrade memory on a laptop from 512 to a gig of ram?
also what else should i be looking for in a potential laptop??
thanks in advance
Matt

Welcome to CompuHelpForum
A RAM upgrade shouldn't be a problem, but if you're buying new, you will probably get a better deal if you buy it upgraded.
As to what to look out for when buying ..... this will depend largely on what you intend to use the Laptop for. Having said that for £250-£300, you wont get much of a spec. ;)

Acer are usually good value, but try and stay clear of the Celerons & Semprons, as these are slow old slugs.
Having said that ... for £250 - £350 that's probably what you will get ;)
You should be ok but you will need to find out before you buy it, some laptops especially the cheap ones don't offer much expandapility, I have even seen some where you need to pull the laptop to bits (and potentially void your warranty) just to get at the memory or more commonly there is only one available ram slot.

so what would i need to look out for so i don't get myself into that situation?

Acer or Dell are easy when it comes to upgrading memory, to be honest though with your budget you'd be as well looking at 2nd user or refurbished, as you will get a much better spec. stay well clear of celerons & semprons though like phil pointed out above.
