The Pioneer 107 gets my vote. Very flexible with media and you get the option to upgrade your firmware to burn just about any 4x DVD-R disc at 8x. Even though it will burn to both formats, I do strongly suggest going with the -R format. PS2s seem to get along a little bit better with a quality DVD-R disc than with + format discs. Also, -R discs are cheaper. Some people recommend the NEC DVD Burner because it is a little bit cheaper but I personally won't touch one because of all of the problems that are reported with them and Ritek DVD-R media. Ritek is probably the most recommended media for the money. That brings me to media quality. Don't expect to buy just any DVD-R or DVD+R disc and expect it to work properly. PS2s can be especially picky about thier media (as can some DVD Players). The two types I recommend are Ritek and Taiyo Yuden for DVD-R.

Sony doesn't make them anymore, so that Sony is a Optorite.....
What kind of computer do you have? You should always give all your specs.

I dont think you can do 8x on a 800mhz computer.
Newegg has a nec 2500 for $81
OfficeMax has a Microadvantage 8x for $70 after rebate
Dell got a liteon 8x external for $101 after rebate & coupon

I like the Pioneer as well, but I picked up an external Plextor PX-708UF that has been working very nice.

Oi! Upgrade time. I have the same machine and can't stand the bog down when burning and trying to multi-task. Reminds me of my old Pentium 133 days.
Get the Pioneer 107D.

When I first got my nec2500a I had a P3 868 with 256ram and I burned 4x just fine, while multitasking. Had kind of a rough start with the burner, but I have not had any problems since about a week after I got it.
