where do i start??

a few days ago pc booted as usual, but then once everything had loaded, i got a window with "could not find cd.clint.dll". made a note to try and find out what this was over the weekend...and if it was important. everytime i booted i got this message.

the other day, it sounded like there was a mouse inside my pc...thought it could have been a dirtyfan or something, and again vowed to take a look at weekend and try to give it a clean up...again got same window after windows loaded.

tried to turn on last night...wasn't having any of it...reboot...then i got to a windows 2000 start up screen (i'm running XP!). Then before i get any windows start up, i got a dark blue screen, saying:

STOP 0x0000007b (0xf401B84C, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

AAAgh!!

So..i rebooted and looked at the bios screen, and the master wasn't specified (casted my mind back...sure that my maxtor hd was listed here before). tried auto detect..reset, no joy. :bawling:

Today, i looked at a few sites on what to do...so fearing the worst i turned it on...and it's started up fine again???!!! :wavey:

Let windows check the disk on startup etc...fine. now once it booted i get the message cannot find "loadcd.clint.dll".

Obviously, i am going to presume the HD is knackered(all signs point to it, noise etc?)...so what next? what do i need to back up (i have a small HD running as slave) - all i want is to have that contain start up files, and then i can get a new big HD, and re-transfer start up files to that once it's set up. What do i change in BIOS?

Please explain 2 me clearly, as i am not at all proficient in system workings!! I am not going to touch my pc until i know exactly what to do, just in case it cocks up again.

I suggest cheese an a mousetrap.:insane: j/k

Ok, start the easiest route by changing the ide cable. Then in bios enable S.M.A.R.T., If you know the make of the hard drive, they usaully have a diagnostics cd. If all fails, you can either use the repair in XP or reload. I assume you upgraded from 2000? If so, its probably best to reformat and reload. Upgrades usaully cause problems.

Came across this on my travels :

"cd_clint.dll, in it's original form, is a spyware/adware file used by CYDOOR spyware to deliver/collect info via Kazaa. The hacked version of cd-clint.dll is designed to allow Kazaa to work *without* the CYDOOR spyware. This is all fine and good until you decide to uninstall Kazaa, which, if you have the hacked version of the dll, you will get an error and the uninstall will fail. Any web search will yeild a thousand places to tell you how to uninstall Kazaa manually, but I will tell you only how to remove the Kazaa crap from the Add/Remove list.

Open the registry editor (Run_RegEdit), find the key :HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Uninstall\{FA89A7AC-EABF-4D73-B19F-0C3D858D24EF} and delete it. (when you click on the key you will see Kazaa stuff... if you don't then don't delete it.) cd-clint.dll is not a Windows required file and it can safely be removed. Tip: to see if you have the original version or the hacked version find the dll in the system folder and right click it, then click the version tab. If it says CEXX Labs then it is the hacked version"

The reason you get the .dll missing error report, and probably also the reason for many other kazaa errors, is that you run ad-aware/spybot or any other spywarve/adware removing tools.

Sound familiar ??? .. if so, you might need Spybot S&D as well to check for any other junk, that may be lurking on your system.

Since kazaa ruined my windows drivers a couple of years ago I've never ever gone back... I thought they were gone anyway....... :saywhat:
