Where are you located (which country) as that could help us point you in the right direction. The Pioneer 107 in a firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure gets my vote. Great drive and quite affordable.

Yep, like jesterace said get a usb2.0/ide enclosure with a regular ide burner its much cheaper than the regular external burners.

Also if you give us your location we can point out some good sites to get them.

Yes you should be able to get a USB 2.0/Firewire case and get it all setup. Check out www.blankdiscshop.co.uk (http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk) as I believe they carry them.

If it is 2 years old then it should have USB2.0. I suppose you could find out by looking through your list of hardware.

A quick word of caution.

I bought a USB 2.0 pcmcia card:

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=48669

so that I could burn using a 107 on a compaq laptop (908ea).

Using that USB 2.0 card I could burn using a CDRW at up to 16 speed (I never burn any faster than that anyway).

Hard Drives were fine too but for the life of me I could NOT get the 107 to burn a DVD with it. Simulation worked fine but the burn would fail.

The enclosure was the one from blandiskshop too.

It worked fine when plugged into my Desktop but the lappy failed miserably.

I dont think your laptop has USB 2.0 or Firewire:
