USB2 and USB1

Cant remember this so through I would give you guys a try



USB2 is backwards compatible with USB1.1, however in windows XP do you need to have SP1 installed to use USB2; also if you don’t have it installed can use still use a USB2 device with USB1.1 speeds?

yup ithink you're right on both accounts, definitely sp1 is needed for xp to plug and play a usb2 device as usb2. otherwise it'll act as a usb1 device.

iwas just wondering whether if you have the driver disc (even if it isn't digitally signed by m$ :rolleyes: ) for the device then maybe it'd work even without sp1?

The driver CD's only provide drivers for Win9x/2K and they do not have driver for XP because of "license agreement" with MS. One can find the USB 2.0 driver for XP from MS site.
