hdmi cable and scart cable ????

hi all
i bought the sharp aquos 42 lcd im running new v plus box on ntl thro it, it as hdmi cable and a cart cable coming from the vplus box i thought it only needs a hdmi cable not scart as well,the picture is not that good neither eny idears whats going wrong before i get a mannie in to have a look

Have you set the output on the V+ box to either 1080i or 720p?
