ok so i went round a friends house who was having trouble playing some .avi files on his pc. I installed a codec pack which made the videos run but because it reinstalled quicktime it somehow messed up his previous quicktime install.

The knockon effect of this is now his itunes won't run at all. Just brings up the windows error box with the 'send' or 'dont send' option. After reading round on some forums ive decided to try uninstall quicktime (by deleting the dir and then and entries in the registry apple folder).

my first question is this....lets say i somehow manage to reinstall itunes and it works fine but theres no songs in the library (i cant find a library folder on his hardrive anywhere), how do i transfer the songs from his ipod into the fresh itunes library?

thanks ill post an update as i go along...any help would be great

ok so after an afternoon of messing around its all fixed.....

if anyone else has the same problem or a similar one after installing a codec pack just do this and it should fix it....

1. (you may not need to do this but i had to as i had tried to remove the new codecs i had installed and it didnt work). Install the codec pack again that caused the trouble in the first place.

2. Download and install the stand alone version of quicktime (not the itunes and quicktime in one bundle).

3. Now download and install the new version of itunes.

4. Restart PC and everything should be running fine. The problem is caused by changing the quicktime codecs so by following these steps you are replacing them with the correct ones again.

hope it helps, i know i had a nightmare for a day or two thanks to installing a codec pack
