I am thinking in buying a 256 RAM for my computer. Which is the best brand to get? I am in Canada. Thank you.

Corsair.

But crucial should be efficent for people that don't overclock.

I agree with ps2wiz on both counts. Kingston HyperX also gets my vote for high-performing RAM, though there have been some manufacturing probs with it. Seems some sticks have stability issues while others don't and there doesn't seem to be any way to tell which is which atm.

Corsair gets my vote as well.

Hey I agree with him too. :D

But in most cases general Crucial/Micron or Kingston RAM is fine and you would be just wasting your money by buying expensive RAM you won't notice the difference with unless you plan on some serious O/C.

what type of computer?
Celeron 766 Mhz,128 RAM, 30 Gig HD.
Is it worth it to buy RAM for this computer? I want it so I can encode a little faster my retail dvd movies.

Not worth it. part of it is that I am sure your MOBO doesn't support the kind of RAM that would make a significant difference.

Hmm... People are actually agreeing with me? WTF is up with that? Wierd day I guess.

A new computer would help you out on your encoding. RAM wouldn't affect it too much in your case..

I want it so I can encode a little faster my retail dvd movies.I know it isn't what you want to hear but getting a new machine will make all of the difference in the world for you. I went from a 1.1GHZ Celeron processor 400MHZ FSB and 128MB SDRAM to a 2.4GHZ P4 with 800MHZ FSB and 256MB of DDR PC3200 RAM and the time it takes me to do my DVD Shrink projects has been drastically reduced. On the old setup it took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes to do a DVD Shrink project, if I used the Deep Analysis then it would take somewhere from 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours. I actually did a test to compare the difference. Just before I pulled the plug on my old machine I ran the movie Firefox through DVD Shrink without a Deep Analysis and it took 1 hour and 20 minutes to do. Using the Exact same configuration (but using the Deep Analysis this time) I ran it through Shrink on my current machine. It took just 25 minutes and 25 seconds. I had no idea how much time I was losing by doing projects on my old machine, until that moment. The upgrade cost me a total of $475USD and it looks like I will be able to sell my old setup for $125-$150USD. So $350USD for the total upgrade cost (at the worst) is well worth it considering what I am able to do now.

Thanks for the help guys. I won't spend my hard earning money on something that will not do any difference, instead will save that money for a new computer :)
