Hi. Can someone help me on this, I format my hd and reinstalled Windows Xp-pro and now my high speed internet works ok for about 5 minutes or so after restart or shutdown but after that it gets very slow and starts to freeze. I have a Celeron 766, 30gig , 128 ram. My computer came with Windows Me and then I upgrade to Windows Pro, than I formated and installed only Windows XP Pro. What can I do to fix this?. Thanks in advance.

Is your high speed connection Broadband? if so you may have a Blaster Virus on your Pc, (update to Xp) use google to look it up

Or the drivers for whatever modem your using are either wrong, or aren't working correctly.
Maybe look at getting updated drivers for the modem.

check whether windows has automatically enabled a firewall. This was exactly what happened to me when i used to try and use windows (or any other) firewall- would have a good connection for about 5 mins then it would eventually grind to a halt.

FLASHISH: How do I check that in Windows? Thanks.Go to control panel, find your internet connection, right click and look at the properties - under the advanced tab see if the "Internet connection firewall" box is checked.
Do you have a 3rd party firewall and antivirus software installed? Have you scanned?

Thanks Virgin San, checked that and it is ok. But I scanned with Trend micro and I had virus and it clean it for me and everything is ok now :).
I didn't scan it before because I thought that because I had just format my hd my computer would be "clean". How did I get those virus? Why I didn't get rid of them with the format?

it might be the fact that you go online.. with an winxp first sp pack.. which was being hit and still being hit alot by virus online... those virus.. keep on scanning other ports and sending themselves out... that's why your internet lags... i had that virus before too.. just upgrade your winxp sp to version 4 or 5 pack.. it'll stop those thing and install a firewall.. you never know what will try to hit you next
