Just had new pc with Media Centre edition and windows media player or the Media centre will not play dvd's.

If you got this PC with MCE already installed, you should have the decoder built-in.
If you installed MCE yourself with the 2 CD set (OEM get 3 CDs with extras such as encoder), then you just need to install something like WinDVD and you should be able to play DVDs and TV pictures.

powerDVD Ultra (will also do HD-DVD or Blu-ray if you upgrade in the future)
@ duffy, I have the OEM, it's only 2 discs and there was nothing extra, I had to install an mpeg2 codec before it would play DVDs
