View Full Version : DVD Decrypter burn speed
Hi and hello I have read that you can use the dvd decrypter to copy ps2 iso images to your hd. It spit out two files i just select the iso one (the one with the largest size)
But what is the max speed I can burn ps2 games with?
thanks

It really depends on several things 1. Your burner/firmware 2. Your media 3. Your PS2's ability to read discs burned at higher speeds. I personally burn at 4x without a hitch. I am using a Pioneer 105 with Ritek (Ridata) DVD-R media and my PS2 is a R Version. With that said, no two PS2s are exactly alike with what they can read. My advice is to give it a shot at max speed and see what happens. Even quality media (ie Ritek) is cheap enough now that it won't kill you if you get one or two coasters. ;)
I just tried burning it at 1x speed and that doesnt even work. I have a v5 ps2 with a SBOX mod so I have to go threw the AR2. ... I am burning with a pioneer 8x (dvd r/w +/-) DVR-A07XLA. Im using Bencole Platinum -r 1-4x.
any suggestions why?

Probably something to do with having 2 iso images on your HDD, I take it you don't have the file splitting set to none in the settings under ISO read mode. It could also be a media issue although im not sure as iv'e never heard of Bencole Platinum -r 1-4x
my file splitting wasnt set to one so i clicked it. But it still make the 2 files tekken4.iso and a tekken4.mds .... so thats not normal?

The mds is designed to run with Alcohol 120% you don't need to burn it. Just select the iso image as that is what you want. I am willing to be that the media is the issue here. Cheap quality media will kill you just as fast as anything else when it comes to game backups.

yeah, that is weird media, you should use stuff known to work with both your ps2 & writer. Aren't those Riteks?
thank you all for your help. I just got those cause it was 6 for 5 so i got some -r and some + r cause I remember reading that one type may not work on my ps2.
I guess i will go and get me some Ritek dvd -r (?).

Yes that will make a big difference. Generally speaking older PS2s don't like +R but have no problems reading a quality -R disc. Ritek or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R would be my two recommendations.

I don't know if this will help you, but when i first started burning PS2 games I tried to use DVD decryptor. I too had problems getting the games to boot on my system, i found that if i swapped the original game for the burnt game at a game menu the game would still work, but this was useless to me since the game was a rental. So I tried a different game with DVD decryptor and the same thing happened. I then tried to burn a game with RecordNow DX, and it worked. So maybe it's not the media but the burning program, try another one and see if that makes a difference.
Just to let you know what media I have..

I am going to the store tomarow to try this Ritek thing out.
RecordNow DX don't you have to pay for that?

Well I got my RecordNow DX with my DVD burner. I have a Sony DRU-510A. i dunno if you need this, but i found this site that gives you step-by-step instructions on how to burn using different programs. http://www.mjpaul.freeserve.co.uk/home.htm

Get DiscJuggler 4 if you want accurate 1:1 copies. Also you will want to get good media, and burn at 1X or 4X.
You should ignore all the other crappy programs, software really is as important as good hardware..
um... I just went and read some of disc juggler and so far it shows just cd-r and cd-rw but if it does do dvd's then it costs money. Im going for free stuff here. Susanowo (http://dvdrom-guide.com/forums/member.php?u=255) vbmenu_register("postmenu_11441", true); thanks for the site.. It has a nice layout I will read it in a lil while thanks. but I do beleave its the media but i will wait cause its bad highways today. (rainy bad)
