Cant Update Songs

I have an iPod nano or mini or whatever the really thin one is but I cant seem to update the songs anymore.

When iTunes loads at the very bottom where it says how much memory is used/free there is a padlock symbol. I think somehow I managed to mess the thing up, does unbody know how to unlock it?

The padlock means that the nano is in auto sync mode and is simply mirroring what's in Itunes so any modifications are made in Itunes and all your music should also be in Itunes so you can play it. IF you want to manually modify the nano there is a manual control mode.

Open Itunes and select ipod nano in the Source pane.
Click the Summary tab.
In the Options section, select "manually manage music"
Click Apply.

When you manage songs yourself, you must always eject the nano from itunes before you can disconnect it.

Though I have added songs to the library and clicked update SMEG but they never appear. :confused:
