connect to itunes to restore...

I keep getting this message on my 30gb video ipod.
I then use itunes to restore it and it resets itself only to come up with the same message.
then it displays the message on the pc screen itunes has discovered an ipon in recovery mode and wants me to restore again.

I am soooooo close to flight testing this. any ideas guys?

Thanks for the reply....
Tried all that.
I sent it back two weeks ago. they said there was no fault found and sent it back.
Friday evening it went the same way again.
I was rather hoping there was some third party software that might format/fix it.
