Newbie here,
I have a 80gig HDD, with about 60 gigs free.
Should I partition my HDD before I do any DVD copying?
if so, whats the best program to use?
Thanks

Is it NTFS format? If so then don't worry about it, if not then definitely convert from FAT32 to NTFS. FAT32 limits you to 4GB file sizes and that can be a royal pain when it comes to DVD projects.

I always partition my drives into catagories, for organizational purpose. Have the OS, and your apps on a small (<10 Gb) partition, Games on another, and working space on another. I also have a partition dedicated to backing up my primary, but this is best on a different physical drive, until you can put to CD/DVD. This will keep your OS partition less fragmented, and things more organized.
I use Drive Image, to back up my OS partition to the partition specifically for it. This is a weekly ritual for me, and has saved my a$$ many, many times, because I do a lot of configuration changes, and install a lot of "non commercial" software, some of which has totally destroyed my OS.
