Got a new DVD burner for my external USB caddy!
The buffer keeps dropping and the burn fails at about 2 or 3%!
I thought it may have something to do with the pins at the rear of the drive but not sure!
Any ideas!
Cheers

More info needed m8 .....
What are your system specs ?
Is the enclosure connected via USB1, USB 2 or Firewire ?
What Burner i.e. Make/Model ?
What media are you using and at what speed ?
Are you burning on-the-fly or from HDD ?
Have you checked the DMA settings on the IDE channel for your HDD and/or DVD-ROM drive ?
Give us a few more clues eh ;)

Managed to complete a disc earlier, but the buffer is up an down none stop!
My lappy is a P4 2.66Ghz, 512 Ram, 40 Gb HDD, usual extras!
Connected via USB1! (worked with old burner no probs)
The burner is a NEC "NEC DVD±recorder AD-5170 IDE Black OEM DVD+R/+RW/DVD-R/-RW (Dual layer)"
Burning data disc from HDD using "Datawrite Silver Printable (MCC) 8X DVD-R"
No idea about DMA settings ?
Thanks for the post anyway!

USB 1 is certainly not helping, as this is 40 times slower than USB 2.
Have you tried burning at 2 X Speed or 4 X Speed .... this may help.
To check your DMA settings have not reverted to PIO, go to :
Device Manager/IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers ... right click select Properties/Advanced and look at Current Transfer Mode.
