new pc (no modem

my wifes dad in law has bought a new pc#acer t180
i have been tryin to set up dial up internet for the moment
now i have been at this for hours and have phoned up tec at aol
now they say that there is no modem installed on this new pc???

is this common

whats the best way round this

ie if he were to sign up to broadband and recieve free wireless router or modem would this solve the prob???
plz help guys as he is desperate for internet

any broad band pci modem will do the job last one i bought was from pcworld
or ones that you get free from isp's,
which isp are you going to go with.

my mate did the same thing, bought a new PC and had no modem (56k) ... had to go out and buy one.. best way prob would be to go BB anyway

the free router/modem will solve your problem if it's a USB one, if not you need a network card

also, are you sure the tech help didn't mean that the drivers for the modem aren't installed?
is there anything in your device manager that has a problem?

Mate of mine bought a new PC from PC World just before xmas, this too didn't come with a modem.
