First of all , a big thanks for all help offered last time i posted :-)
I have a website up and running and its all working well with the pictures, links and buttons all working and photos showing up where they should but when i upload\download with cute , i open my site and i have 7 folders (private , vti folders and image folder , the image folder contains the photos and i have link to this so they display but all the buttons and htm pages appear below the folders and look a jumble,
how can i clean this up and put them in the folders and get it to work thatr way ?
thanks for advice all :-)
Are you still using Frontpage ?, If so I can't comment too much but If the site was built with Dreamweaver you would be able to put the pages and buttons in a separate folder and as long as this was done on your computer by Dreamweaver the links would be automatically updated, I would guess that Front page would also update the links as long as it's used to reorganise the pages ec't, after reorganising your site you will of coarse need to upload the pages and buttons folder, you should then be able to delete the existing buttons and pages from the site, but remember to leave the index page in the root of the site ;) .
If you're using Flash buttons then as far as I can remember they need to stay in the same folder as the Pages.
HTH.

Hi Toneinblack
if I have understood your post correctly I think you are talking about the view in your uploading programme, of the pane that shows your web site that is loaded, i.e. private, vti, images folders etc... and the html pages are listed below these. I am not sure if these can go in a folder, I have a e web site myself ( diy job using dreamweaver ), when I look at my loaded site pane the html folders are listed loose under the folders although they are in alphabetical order it can be a chore spotting the particular page you want to amend. I would leave all alone though, if its all working fine.
When I first started playing with making my site I used frontpage as it is so easy to use, you know just copy/paste everything, but I was advised here to percivere and try to get to grips with dreamweaver. I am glad I did, I am sure you will find after a short while as I did that dreamweaver is a much better programme to use. I did get hold of a few tutorials on line but I found it much easier to build the site in front page to use as a point of reference, then through trial and error tried to duplicate it using dreamweaver and mostly built my site doing copy & paste.
Sorry if this is a bit long winded but I hope it helps

Hello suzy ,
Yes you are right when you say the view in my uploading programme , Ive looked at a couple of different sites and the buttons all seem to be in the folders (images, vti etc )and only the html pages are underneath the folders making it look alot neater then mine, was just wondering if there was a way to tidy it up .
The website works ok but you are right when you say its cut and paste job and i will reload dreamweaver mx and persever with that but i fear i will continue to bug people" with my how do i "threads lol
thanks for the advice :-)
If you have buttons and other images in with the "loose" html files you can just remove them by right clicking each one and click delete. If this is what you are looking to do please make sure that all buttons and other images your site needs is in the images folder and check your image file source on the html page is showing that the image is being sourced from the images folder or your site wil loose these images. If this does happen open up your cute ftp and find the image files that have accidently been removed left click and drag over to the upload pane.

the photos are in the images folder but the loose files (buttons are just loose at bottom of folders list,I have just looked and they are not in any other folder that i can see, so presuming i delete them then they will delete from website also ?
cheers suzy :)
If the site is all working ok and all is well you could just leave it, but if you want to tidy all that up, then you will need go into frontpage or dreamweaver open your web folder and drag and drop all the images and buttons etc... that are loose into the images folder, so that only the html pages are loose under all the other folders. You will then have to open all of your html pages and double check that all the images, buttons, etc.. are being sourced from the images folder.
If you have found that any of your html pages did have images that were sourced from outside the images folder and you have made changes to the source then you will need to upload those html pages and overwrite the existing ones.
Hope it helps

tried that before i posted on here and none of the links worked so guessing i had to re open the pages and alter the links for the buttons to point to inside the image folder , shouldnt frontpage tidy it up as it goes along?
cheers suzy :-)

You are quite right, you will have to open the pages up again to insert the links to the buttons etc.. if you move these to the images folder. Once you have done this and checked you site online that all buttons and images are visible, you can then if you wish just delete any duplicate images & buttons etc.. that are loose under the folders. Once all this is done then upload the pages you have made changed too and overwrite the old images folder with the new one.
