Alright folks

I've got a 4G Ipod which will charge fine (both through the mains and PC) and is picked up by Itunes. I can transfer music, delete things off it and listen to the tracks on it through my computer but as soon as it is unplugged it won't even switch on.

I've tried holding down different button combinations and everything else I can think of except doing a total factory reset (I was hoping someone will have a solution without me losing everything off it).

Any ideas - help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Maybe the battery isn't holding a charge any more, and it only works when it's got an alternative power supply

Yeah, that must be what it is. Just a bit strange though as the battery was fine up until this - it wasn't like there has been a gradual deterioration. One minute it was working perfectly fine and the next it wouldn't hold a charge at all. Oh well, new ipod for me as a late xmas present I think.

There are apps to download the music back to your PC, then once you've done this you could try the factory reset. If not working still, at least you still have your music

Try

PodUtil (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/29657) or CopyPod (http://www.google.com/search?q=copypod).

Well, a full factory reset did nothing. A total shot in the dark as I know nothing about the insides but all I can think is that the 'connections' for the battery must have come lose. Oh well, I had two years out of it...
