Hi,
I am due to send a few dvd-r to a friend in the States. The friend isn't too technically gifted, so i am hoping that the region free PAL rips will work ok on their dvd player and t.v. without the need to re-encode them into NTSC.

I was just wondering if, in general, most Americans have the ability to play PAL dvd signals as we do to play NTSC ones?

If not, what would be the best software to change the formatting from PAL to NTSC please? Or can anybody do this for me please if i supply the master disc?

In general from what I have seen, no. That is to say that most TV's only handle NTSC signals. This means that a DVD player that can output NTSC from PAL discs is the only real option and not all can do this.

AVISynth and CCE. Means, ripping, re-encoding and reauthoring.

Right, ok, thanks for that m8, had a feeling it was going to be this way. :(
I suppose i have to look for someone to do this for me now then because i have tried encoding before and i'm pretty poor at it.
Can anyone suggest the best man to contact for this please?
