I tried reading the firmware from my 360 sam25 with the pc booted and the floppy.

I booted in dos and plugged the sata in & the pc power cable into the connectivity kit card.
Then I typed "A:\>mtkflash r /Sata orig.bin"

this is whats happened and I've left it all switched on as I'm pooping myself because it hasnt followed as my sheet of instructions said it would...

found another set of instructions saying "When the dump is done, it will tell you to restart your pc. Disconnect the SATA cable and power off the Xbox 360. Eject your floppy and restart your computer."

although the way it got to that is different, I'm hoping alls well.

any further comments are appreciated.

Looks normal to me. You don't need to reboot the PC, it's just what mtkflash says after processing everything. Just copy the key over and flash.

If it doesn't come up with the drive as an option when you go to flash the hacked firmware, then reboot and try writing the flash again.

cheers, I'm not sure why it went like this...

1. Turn on pc first
2. Boot from floppy disc
3.Connect 360 SATA Cable & switch on xbox360 with PC power cable in connectivity kit socket.
4. Type "A:\>mtkflash r /Sata orig.bin"
5. Hit enter
6. This sequence will happen (during this, it checks % several times)...

7) When the dump is done, it said "restart your pc".
8) Disconnect the SATA cable and power off the Xbox 360. Eject your floppy and restart computer.

as my instructions said it should have done this...

1. Turn on pc first
2. Boot from usb (or floppy) disc
3.Connect 360 SATA Cable and video cable When in Dos switch on xbox360
4. "mtkflash r /sata orig.bin"
5. Hit enter
6. MTKflash will run A list of drives should come up asking you to select drive *DON'T ENTER ANYTHING*
7. TURN OFF XBOX360
8. Select sata card, hit enter and wait 10 seconds
9. TURN ON XBOX360
10. As soon as you turn it on it will start reading the 360 firmware.
11. With 360 on unplug sata cable from back of it
12. Power off PC and then 360.

BTW: any help with reading/injecting the key would be appreciated. I'm running out of time for Xmas, and wife wants its wrapped ASAP. Took 2 weeks of reading to get this far (and nothing went as planned-lol)

Your second set of instructions are for the ms28 using the VIA trick to avoid soldering. For the ms25, all you need to do is run mtkflash to read, copyy the key over and run mtkflash to write. No messing about with switching on/off.

For copying the key you have a few options. kdx42 in dos or maximus firmware toolbox in windows would be best.

Open your orig.bin in firmware toolbox. Make a note of the key then open the patched bing (xtreme.bin or whatever) and see if the key is the same (and not all ffffffff's or whatever)

READING/INJECTING KEY

I used "Maximus - 360 FIRMWARE TOOLBOX for Windows Ver 2.0"

Opened my "ORIG.BIN" and it listed my key.

put my "ORIG.BIN" in "Xtreme42" folder, double click on "Make X42a.bin" to
create the updated firmware called "X42A.BIN".

Recheck this in "Maximus - 360 FIRMWARE TOOLBOX for Windows Ver 2.0"
to see if keys are both the same. (THEY WERE!!!!!)

I copied the new ""X42A.BIN" file and put it on my bootable floppy that I used to read the original firmware, with the other files.

Is this all correct?????
