OK, so the promised replacement 6421a sata drivers never came from the seller, but I've managed to get some vt6421 drivers from the via site loaded.
The 4 USB ports that were on the card still havent got drivers loaded (showing as yellow ! in device manager), but I guess that wont make any difference?
I'm hoping the unbranded SATA card with 6421a on the chip has the right drivers, but its showing in device manager>SCSI and RAID controllers> as "VIA VT6421 RAID controller", so I'll just have to cross my fingers.
Managed to get "Extreme Bootmaker" installed at last (said it needed "windows installer 3.0" update first). When I finally managed to sort that out, it opened and I was away.
I loaded "xtrem42a.bin" in the top box.
I ticked the "USE custom MTKFlash" box, which opened up the drop down box.
I had 5 choices to select from (Promise Technology Inc. Ultra IDE Controller, Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel, VIA VT6421 RAID Controller & Promise Technology Inc. Ultra IDE Controller).
I selected "VIA VT6421 RAID Controller" and pressed "Detect ID-IO".
This filled in the "Device ID" box with "11063249" and the "IO Port" with "98009000".
I didnt tick the 2 seperate M28 boxes, asI have an M25.
I selected the "Target Drive" box as A:\ , ticked the "format and make Bootable" box then clicked the "Prepare Drive" box.
I did it a second time with my USB mp3 drive incase I use that instead.
NOW MY NEXT STEP.....
I'll do I bit of reading :-)
