Problem is, Plasmon don't manufacture DVDs. They're a provider of manufacturing equipment, including stampers (stamper ID doesn't equal dye type!!!!!), and supply to a number of third parties.
Therefore, your Plasmon-ID discs could be made by just about anybody. I think generally, like VDSA***, some of the early AN3* (later ones are, I understand, Infosmart media manufactured for the Taiwanese domestic market, unlicensed, and not intended for the UK) and a few others, these are usually development discs, manufactured for testing purposes by various new production lines. The problem is, that because so many companies use these IDs, it's impossible to identify the optimal write strategy for the discs, and a lot of drives choke trying to write them.
At's entirely possible that, somewhere, someone is producing some of the best discs ever manufactured with the Plasmon ID. Impossible to tell.
The worst manufactured DVDs I've ever come across were the Vivastar media, which thankfully is no longer available. Very poor quality.

Well I haven't experimented alot (why bother when Ritek works so well and is so cheap :D ) but I have to say that Princo and Memorex (CMC dye) are the two worst that I have come accross.

I think another factor to be taken ito consideration here is .... "what you are using the disks for" ........
If you are storing data, mp3's etc. you can get away with Princos and others, which would not be the ideal choice for movie backups.
I have some Grade A Princos which I use regularly for data etc.
