help cant play games, xbox live updating?

everytime i switch my xbox on it says, xbox live updating dont swithch off etc, it fails anyway and just keeps trying again and again. i cant get past this screen anyone help? i never tried to update etc its just went that way?

What update is this? have u just hooked up to live recently? did you do the last update? or have you just got live and this is the first update?

I had an update about a week ago, all is ok here

i downloaded and burned a copy of petite copter, i did switch it on with the disk in the drive but now even without the disk it does the above!

Are we talking 360 here or original xbox?

yea its basically a compatible issue for xbox games they need patch downloading to work with 360 console etc.

without that you wont be able to play on the 360.
and remember not all xbox games are 100% compatible with the 360...

thanks for the replys but does anyone know how to fix this so the update screen goes away and i can use the xbox?

remember this is a normal xbox not a 360 nad its not wired up to phone line etc and is chipped

the only obvious solution would be to hook it up to your phone line and let the update happen ...

is there no option to cancel update when it opens up ?

i tried updating by using the sky phone line, i checked its working ok on sky so its working ok but xbox just keeps saying the same thing......not responding try later?

you do just plug the line in yes?

i think it needs plugging in to a network, not a phoneline.

not sure how the updates work on the original xboxes. you should be able to just run dashupdate.xbe found in the root of any original disc/copy of one, however if you have a softmod this will most likely remove/disable it.

have you got evox installed or are you just running it from the default microsoft dash?

its only when i put that heli game in or boot without a disk in i get the update? cant mess about with the dash now but at least it plays now\!"


i tried the heli game on another xbox and it plays without issues?

i think you will find that your xbox is looking for the update on the disc m8 , it was probably riped out 2 fit the game onto dvd so if you want 2 fix the problem ether get a newer game with the update still on the disc or try deleting all traces of the game your having problems with from your hard drive IE saves and stuff . and when u do that dont go back into live on the dash with that disc again lol :clown:

cheers, anyone know a downoad or whatever with the update i need? i cant get into the dash or hdd etc cos the update. i never went into live on the dash! im not even sure i know how 2!

are you modifed with a chip or softmod if you can boot to a backup disk like autoinstaller and restore an original 5960 dash and then reinstall the software for your dachboard of choice to boot with

If its a softmod you can use a disk like cash to resotre to an orginal dash and then einstall your softmod like you normally would this might help

Also make sure autoupdate live is turned of in the msdash after you do this

ps2daddy: its a evo x i think, where do i get the files to burn to cd etc, any guides about doing this. ive only used a xbox a few times so dont know much about dash etc. or is there a update i can download and burn to feed the updtade problem?
