I've got a simple 3 computer home network and one of the computers now has a DVD writer. If I call this one computer 3 then this post should make a bit of sense!

Is it possible for me to burn files that are held on, say, computer 1 using software on computer 1 to access the burner on computer 3. Currently, I transfer all the files from computer 1 to computer 3 then go downstairs to computer 3 and burn the files using Nero 6 on computer 3. Then I delete the files from computer 3.

I'm not lazy, it's just that this computer is in our living room and sometimes people are in there who don't really want to be disturbed by me walking about.

Hope this makes some sense!

I think the DVD software will need to be on the same machine as the writer. As an alternative you could map drives to your shared files from comp 3, and use remote desktop if you've got XP or a Remote control program such as Dameware to connect to comp 3 from the other pcs this way you will be able to burn your DVDs as if you were sitting at comp 3. The only issue could possibly be with file transfer speed as you will be dragging your files across the network, this shouldn't create a problem though.

Thanks for the reply.

I think the best way to do this, erm, isn't to do this(!) but to install the DVD writer upstairs!

Oh well, just though I'd ask!
