OK, I know that there are two basic dvd drives, the Toshiba/Samsung and the Hitatchi drives. I am probably just going to flash the drive if my drive is able to be done that way, but if there was a choice as to which drive that you get between these two after flash, which one is better, or is there any difference?
And is there a different type of backup that have to be used with a flashed dvd drive and a modchip? I thought I saw somewhere that one of them had to be specially patched. Is that correct?
Thanks

Samsung is generally considered to be the better drive.
Backups for the NME modchip need to be repatched. All the images you download will be ready to use with the flashed drive.

Thanks, what makes the Samsung a better drive? Does it read more types of media or what?
Oh and something else. Let me get this straight, all that I need to flash the drive is a SATA cable right? And what kind of slot does this SATA cable plug into on my PC? And I take it you do plug it in the motherboard right?
Yeah, I know these are n00b Q's but I havent been in the scene since Xbox hacks were new and PS2 was just then getting noswap chips.. Its been a while. :/

Yep it takes 2 seconds to patch the images use the nme associator
The modchip makers provide info on where to find this program if you dont have any games already patching is no biggie

Will the flashed firmware DVD Drives play the patched games?
And from what I am reading it is generally better to just flash your drive, obviously lower cost and just plain better.. Is that right?

Ps if you arent sure even what a sata cable plugs into, I would suggest getting someone else to mod your xbox. Save you wrecking it if you mess up mate
