From experience they are usually samsungs and ms28s :)
so may need to solder for vcc trick depending on your chipset

with all the bickering aside, I need help. The lad wants a 360 core for crimbo. I have access to backup games so a modded console is what I need. so please answer
a) should I get a pre-modded 360?
b) where's the best place to get one?
c) will it be reliable and play all backups?
d) will it be future proof? or will I have to keep having it updated?

phone guy, are you sure I can purchase a pre-modded console (console modded and ready to play backups )from a store? ie MAKRO or a toy store? I thought it might have to be a seller on the forum or ebay maybe

You won't get a premodded console from a store, just a moddable one. The Pro Evo 6 premium pack seems to also be all Samsung drives.

I've had about 20 Pro Evo packs from Virgin this week, cleared out the last of their stock today, all ms25s and ms28s. Tescos have just started selling them so I'll find out over the weekend what their ones are.

Been offered some WWE packs but the dates on them are just past mid August, so they're either going to be ms28s or Hitachi 78s :/

Ah cool, i'll try those when I run out of the Pro Evo. Bought all 4 from Tesco today, all ms25s.

edit: also picked up a standard premium from hmv, asda and comet. every single one a samsung, even though the hmv one was manufactured last month!

edit2: the ms28 from the console made last month has the black glue over one side of the resistor needed to do the vcc trick too. managed to flip it out from the other side though and flash as normal :D
