well i went back to smiths to buy the lot555 core (noticed a premium box on the top shelf too).

I spoke to the manager about it being old and knocked him down a tenner.

The box had been used in the window display, so the contents were around the back.

they put them in the box and charged me £199.

when i got home, the contents are wrong compared to what the box says it should have.

there's a sealed wireless controller, HD cable, earphones and the disc tray is chrome.

I've connected it to my TV via the scart part of the HD cable (switched it to "TV"). When I turn it on, I cant get it to show on screen when i set the TV to AV1,2 or 3. What am I doing wrong?

how can i find out for sure if there's a HDD inside?

BTW: its got the tray for a samsung in it :-)

Also, i left it powered up for a while whilst I read the manual, and it turned itself off after several minutes. Should it do this?

if its got the HDD with it you cant miss it mate, it will be attached to the left hand side of the console looking at it from the front. Says HDD in fairly big latters and is chrome and grey.

And as for it powering off after a few minutes i gather they all do that yes if its not been setup yet and or the video cables are not plugged in. Had this happen a few times whilst trying to flash them.

yahooooo!!!!!!!!!

it has a chrome cover on the left with "HDD" written on it!!!!!

i've sussed why the TV wouldnt display it (I hadnt pushed the AV connector into the back of the console fully)

To be 100% about the hard drive, doesnt it show on the dash somewhere?

To answer your question about it turning off, yes it does do that if the AV cable isn't plugged in properly.
