View Full Version : Automatic noise and hiss remover?

hi, ive copied audio cassettes to mp3 and there is hissing and noise on it. is there a program that will automaticly remove it? or a simple program ?
ive tried doing it manually with programs and all i seem to do is nacker the sound of the song its self.

First off, you need to see if the cassettes were recorded with any type of noise reduction such as Dolby B/C or DNR. By using the correct noise reduction system for playback, it will reduce the noise dramatically without hurting the songs themselves.
Some programs like GoldWave (http://www.goldwave.com/) let you input the sample of the noise/hiss to remove these noise/hiss from the files. You only need to run the tape where there is no music to get the noise sample. Even though GoldWave is not free, it is very affordable.

hi, i finaly got gold wave, but cant see how to use the original tape to take the noise out...
do you know of a guide around? many thanks

Try Effect/Filter. I assume you're using the latest version v5.06.
There is an on-line manual under Help.
