Got my 360 flashed yesterday by our very own Phone Guy. Got a couple of games to try, WWE and NFS on Ritek. WWE works fine everytime. NFS comes up with unplayable disc about 19 times out of 20.

Got COD3 and Gears of War on Trakdata today. COD3 also works everytime, Gears doesnt work at all.

I have an Hitachi drive and the dics seem mint. Are thes drives fusser than others??

What media are the discs on?, did you burn these yourself? or are they from somebody with a proven setup?.

The hitachi drives a re a little fussier than the sammy's, however the later hitachi firmwares have sorted a lot of that out.

Traxdata are probably the same dye as the ritek (as apparently Ritek own Traxdata).... so not the best DL media. It's no doubt that thats the problem.
Get some decent Verbs. You can't go wrong with them. There is a lot of difference from drive to drive on both the TS and Hitachi. It's luck of the draw. My personal Hitachi has never let me down and read some right dodgy burns. By contrast some Sammy's I've seen lately even with 4.2B read like sh!t.

my hitachi is the same - wether there verbs or not - cod3 will not get past the opening bit - gow plays but often crashes

When they work, they seem to work fine. Smackdown and COD3 both okay so far

What firmware are you running? My mates ( hitachi not sure which firmware he has ) runs all kinds with no probs ridisc, verbs, he even got tiger woods on one of those shitty aone dvds and has no probs.

Im running a samsung which has been pretty stable for me, but im going to be getting one for my brother at xmas, so im doing some research into the hitachi drives.

i don't think the better media detection in the latest Hitachi firmware is all that cracked up to be, for example i have two hitachi's here that i use, my one is 59 and the kids is 46 model, both with latest firmware, so identical apart from model number, my one reads real cheap discs or verbsand the one upstairs only verbs. I think it still very much just pot luck on the drive itself for hitachi.

The only good thing about it now is if i want to keep agame for myself and stop the kids nicking it and running upstairs with it i burn to a cheap brand of DL, lol

It really all does go back I guess to how the pots are tuned on the drives. I guess media detection will take the drive so far but if you have a laser thats not tuned O.K you're sh!t out of luck.
It's deffo a case of individual drives being different, Like I've said a few times now I've seen sammys with 4.2A that won't read owt, and I've seen hitachis the same. Some good some bad.

Defo think its media. Had a similar prob back in the day with a thomson xbox drive. Hell, even at a 50 percent hit rate its still cheaper than an original

Now looking round the net itsd not a media problem.

Try unplugging the xbox after each game at the mains for 10 secs then trying

agree with previous comments about how the pots are setup - mines been like this since day1 of release - certain releases just crash - tried all the firmwares no difference tried different media no difference
