you'll need a xbox 360 vga hd cable it just connects to the vga port on the monitor, so you'd be idealy looking for a monitor that has 2 vga ports or 1 plus dvi to save you having to swap cables around between the xbox and the pc, and getting a monitor with built in speakers would be another bonus. so in answer to your original question any half decent monitor with 2 vga ports or 1 plus a dvi port and speakers would be ideal.

Thanks for your replay mate
Does the VGA Cable not have phono leads etc or another way to get sound out? can it only be done through the built in speakers, or do some monitors allow you to plug better speakers into them?
Thanks

Yes they do have phono leads and can be plugged into speakers or an amp etc, was just saying it was a bonus with speakers on the monitor at the end of the day a tft with only a single vga socket and no speakers will do the job but then you'll have to swap cables around for use between pc and xbox.

Or you could get a switch, maybe something like this

well a switcher would do but not that thats for ps2 would need to be vga but it would cost more buying one of those as most mis range monitors already have both vga and dvi ports anyway its just the speakers he have to worry about

Can you not connect to the monitor using DVI, does it have to be VGA (and if you can, which is beter?)?
Also, what res. monitor is needed to experience true Hi Def?

Dont think it would make noticable difference whether dvi or vga but i'd hook the pc up with dvi and the xbox with vga if using the same monitor for both, im no expert on monitors so this is just my opinion but i thought all pc monitors gave hi def picture quality especialy on games.
