As the title says. I have been using a Canon printer with my laptop using a cable. I have recently got a new laptop which only has USB ports which are uncompatible with my printer cable. I have tried an adaptor which didn't work as Canon said it probably wouldn't & they cannot supply a suitable cable. The printer is apparantly enabled with IrDA. My laptop runs XP, do I need to install / download anything to make these devices compatable. Any help greatly appreciated-- Thanksstoneyred

Canon makes alot of printers, why don't you take a moment to tell us which one you have?

Assuming this is a USB printer, USB ports that are "uncompatible with a printer cable" doesn't make any sense. If it's the wrong kind of cable then spend $5~$15 and get the right kind.

It's a BJC 50. The connection on the printer side is a connection I've never seen before (a molex connection I believe). The connection on the other end of the cable is a serial connection. My new laptop only has USB ports & I've tried a adaptor but this doesn't work. Canon don't supply USB / Molex cables hence the reason I'm trying to connect by infra - red.

Cheers
