View Full Version : length of broadband cable ?

hi,
moved my computer upstairs, but cant seem to get my broadband to work ? say's no dialtone ...
i can hear a dialtone when i connect a phone, the length of cable i have used is about 20 metre's.... would this be a problem ?

well broadband has no dialtone.
the computer might be trying to dial when it should already be connected, the lcable length makes no diffrence.
go to network connections then look at your LAN setting and if there is a dialup setting you should disable it.

Did broadband work before you moved the system, as you did not say? If it worked before then it stands to reason that it must be the cable. are the plugs om the 20M cable identical to the old one? As pepsik said it sounds like you are trying to dial up broadband.
What is your ISP?
Do you have a dial up modem installed as well as your broadband?

sorry Elaine, need to update my details... my isp is now 'pipex homecall'.
when i said there was a dialtone, it was only to explain that the cable's are probably ok.
having said that, i have left my original b/b cable in place d/stairs, and used a different one for the u/stairs connection.
so i need to investigate further,thanks for the reply's
