I'm having spring cleaning on my system, and i have many files that i would like to re-arrange and store them in a directory-tree, since they are strongly related.

I fear that i might run into a minor problem sooner or later... considering the number of levels in the tree, the path names are getting quite large, like 150 characters and over. Example: W:\Afdeling\Beheer_en_Onderhoud\Baggeren\Baggergeg evens hoofdwatergangen\Vijfheerenlanden\03-05 Bolgarijen, Boeicop en Zijderveld\03-05-07-02 Inlaatleiding)

What is the maximum number of characters i can use in path/file names before i run into trouble...? :suspic:

probably depends on the OS but 255 is the number that springs to mind, on a glorious sunny morning in the UK :)

only reason i remember it is when attaching a file into an email, from a network drive, where the 255 has been exceeded.
