I am trying to find my NIC card so I can change the ip to set up ftp to my xbox.

I started by going into network in the control panel. I have 3 options there, and I don't think any of them are my nic.

The first is TCP/IP-> Dial-up adapter. The second is Intel(R) Pro/100 P mobile Combo Adapter. finally there is my802.11b card.Is it possible that one of these is my nic card? Or am I looking in the complete wrong place?

tcp/ip-> advanced settings then setup your own ip, don't remember exactly what it is but you click on a little button and then the rest of the fields become visable.

You lost me on that. There is nothing that says advanced settings in the network tab. Am I in the right place?

The 802.11b card is your NIC. Double click it, then click the properties button. Click Internet Protocol TCP/IP, click the Properties button, and you can change the IP there.

No, I have an ethernet port on the back of my laptop that I want to use so I will still be able to connect to the internet.

How exactly are you connected to the internet? A dial up connection? Try doing what I posted above with the Pro/100 P mobile Combo Adapter.

No I have a wireless dsl connection. I think it is the Pro/100. I am just having trouble getting it to ftp. I guess I should have started this post in the xbox forum I just thought more people would know about windows ME here.

Intel(R) Pro/100 P mobile Combo Adapter is your ethernet NIC. And the 802.11b card is your WI-FI NIC. If you say "No I have a wireless dsl connection" than its the 802.11b NIC. However you can't really change your IP in your NIC. You need to do that through your router. Log in and asign a Static IP. I don't recomend DHCP.
