Ive downloaded a HD episode of stargate Atlantis from the Newsgroups, when i d/l it i used rar slave to check the file and extract them etc. im fairly new to all this and i think thats right what i have done but it has extracted them into 39 100mb MPEG files, is this normal??? is their anwyay to put them back into a complete file again becasue whenever i play them using VLC or WMP every file it jumps when changing files and is very anoying as it about every minute. im new to news grpups and HDTV so any advise is welcome
Wasnt to sure which forum to put this in so please move if not approprate mods

1k, you could try using a video joiner to merge all MPEGs together.

most HD movies uploaded to newsgroups are in TS format (100Mb chunks) which can be joined using DOS or software called HDTV2MPEG2
to join the MPEGS together you can use just about any mpeg joining software

Ive discovered a good easy program called Null Packet stripper, very quick, all it does is merge them together and not edit the files in anyway, Hope this might help someone in the future

that's the same as doing it in DOS
another way is using HDTV2MPEG which joins all the TS files together (or you can set a size limit and it will split it) and converts it to MPEG2 format, which makes it more compatable with playback software, this also doesn't do any re-encoding as TS is a variation of MPEG2 (and uses the same codec), I find this the quickest way

Just out of interest, why are they split in the first place?
If its rar'd, whats the need?

becasue they are from newsgroups and each file is stored on the newscroups as characters, text, and each article cannot be more than so many charaters long so they have to split it into induvidual downloads. Think thats right, someone that knows more about newsgruops can probly explain easyier and correct me if im wrong

I thought it was to do with the way the transport stream is broadcast or captured on DVR's in the USA (in 100Mb chunks), I know they split stuff on newsgroups, but think Transport Streams are in chunks on the PVR's HDD
