...That buying El cheapo dvdrs (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=59280) is a bad idea, and its worth the extra few pence per disc for Quailty media?

cheers

Actually, I've found that it's not necessarily the price you pay, but the ink that matters. I've paid over $2 US each for some that have been just as crappy as some that I bought online for less than a buck each. I will not, however, try a brand online, unless I have already bought them locally and know for a fact that they will work. Mainly because if I can buy them locally, I can look at them and see how dark the ink is on them. That's been the best rule of thumb to go by for me. Seems to work fine that way too. The darker the ink, the better they'll work.

With Ritek DVD-R being as cheap as they are now, I agree that it doesn't make much sense to go with such brands. Problem with something generic like that is that there is little (if any) quality control so you are taking a gamble from batch to batch. Also you have lower compatibility. Even though they might work on your player, you might embarass yourself if you go over to a friend/relatives house and they don't work on thier player(s).

They're not even that cheap. Datawrite Reds are currently on sale for a good £2-3 per pack less.

Whilst I've never had an issue with AN31 media, I still wouldn't recommend it at that price. AN31 in my experience is fine if you can get it cheap enough, no more.
