I am trying to set my Nan's PC up so she can use her laptop on t'internet. She has a Belkin wireless router and I have followed all the instructions on setting it up but there seems to be no signal from the modem to the router (the light on the router is not lit up and it cannot find the internet). I have tried different cables so it's not that and when I plug the modem into the PC it works fine so it's not the modem or ethernet card. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

is she on ntl?
the silver ntl modems have dodgy ethernet connections-ring em up and get a new one

Yes she is. But it works when I plug it directly into the modem to the PC!

Sound like a faulty router if you are sure you have the correct cable.

"router is not lit up and it cannot find the internet"

I have a belkin. It's light flashes if its not detecting a signal. Steady if it gets a signal.

There is only one type of cable that can work.

Try using a crossover cable between the router and the modem.

You can also ignore Handyguy's post, some modems require a crossover cable and some don't.

your going to have to start the installation process all over again, usually you place the disc in the drive and not connect anything until the disc is halfway through the installation process and it tells you to connect the items in order. there should be a reset button on the back of the router it would be a good idea to reset and start allover again.

hmmm i thought i replied to this yesterday.
is she on ntl with a silver modem?
if so get them to replace with a new one as the silver ones have faulty ethernet ports resulting in you losing the signal and having to reset the damn thing every day
